NYC Transit Service Changes You Should Know For Christmas And New Year’s

Here's what you need to know to get around the city if you're staying home for the holidays.

NEW YORK CITY — New Yorkers staying home for the holidays will have to adjust their commute as the MTA plans to modify subway and bus services.

On Christmas Day and New Year's Day, subways and buses will run on a Sunday schedule. Regular weekday service will continue through Christmas Eve, according to the transit agency.

Buses in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx will operate on a reduced weekday schedule on Christmas Eve, Friday, Dec. 26, Monday, Dec. 29, Tuesday, Dec. 30 and New Year’s Eve.

On New Year’s Eve, the MTA will increase service to the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, C, D, G, L, N, Q, R, and the 42nd Street shuttle lines in preparation for the Times Square ball drop.

The Long Island Railroad will run 11 additional trains to Grand Central Madison and Penn Station on New Year's Eve. In the overnight hours, 12 additional trains will be available to take passengers back to Long Island.
