Hallets Cove Seawall To Get $4.7M Restoration This Fall
The parks department is slated to begin work this fall on a multimillion-dollar restoration of the concrete seawall along Hallets Cove.

ASTORIA, QUEENS — The parks department is slated to begin work this fall on a multimillion-dollar restoration of the concrete seawall along Hallets Cove in Astoria.
The $4.7 million project, which is being funded by Mayor Bill de Blasio's office, is expected to start by the end of October and wrap up by fall 2021, according to a parks department spokesperson and the Old Astoria Neighborhood Association.
Workers will fix portions of the seawall that have deteriorated from storms and erosion and install new painted railings at the water's edge.

"The seawall and railing have deteriorated to the point where safety is an issue, and we are just waiting for serious injury and property damage," Old Astoria Neighborhood Association President Richard Khuzami wrote in a blog post.
Claudia Coger, the tenants' association president for the nearby Astoria Houses, led the way in lobbying for the project.
