Hundreds In Astoria Lose Power After Storms Hit NYC
More than 500 households in Astoria lost power after storms battered the city Wednesday.
ASTORIA, QUEENS — More than 500 households in Astoria are still without power after storms battered the city Wednesday night, Con Edison says.
The utilities company reported partial power outages for 516 customers along 33rd Street in Astoria as of 8:30 a.m. Thursday. The outages affected residents on 33rd Street between 30th and 31st Avenues.
Heavy rain and extreme heat caused the Astoria outages, a Con Ed spokesperson said.

Power won't fully return to the area until Thursday afternoon, Con Ed estimates say. A Con Ed spokeswoman said the vast majority of customers should have gotten power back Thursday morning.

Wednesday night's storms brought almost two inches of rain to New York City, with rainfall exceeding that in parts of Queens, according to the National Weather Service.
The powerful storms flooded streets and subway stations as thousands of New Yorkers lost power.
