LIC Robotics Team Launches Fundraiser To Compete In World Championship

LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — A group of students from a Long Island City high school launched a fundraiser to pay for their travel to a robotics competition in Texas and represent the school worldwide.

The RoboTigers team from Queens Technical High School in Long Island City has qualified to compete at the 2023 FIRST World Championship in Houston, Texas, from April 19 to April 22, but are don't have enough funds to pay for their travel and lodging for the event.

The team needs over $39,000 to pay for the entire team’s flights and accommodations, but the group has only secured $5,000.

“With spring break approaching on Thursday and everything needing to be approved by our school before, we are on a tight timetable of either making this happen or forfeiting our opportunity to compete on a world level,” reads the GoFundMe page.

The RoboTigers team has won an Impact Award at the Long Island #2 regional and the competition at the New York Tech Valley Regional, qualifying twice for the FIRST World Championships in Houston, Texas.

The money raised through the fundraiser would go toward travel and lodging for 29 students and eight mentors to attend the competition.
