Long Island City Crash Critically Injures Scooter-Rider, Police Say
A 37-year-old man riding a scooter was critically injured when he was hit by a driver on 12th Street Monday afternoon, police said.

LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — A man riding a motorized scooter was critically injured when he collided with a driver in Long Island City on Monday, police said.
The crash happened at the intersection of 40th Avenue and 12th Street, near the Queensbridge Houses, where a 37-year-old man was riding his Honda PCX scooter eastbound on 40th Street around 1 p.m., police said.
An unidentified person driving a Nissan Maxima sedan north along 12th Street hit the scooter-rider in the intersection, police said.

The man was rushed to NewYork Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in critical condition, while the driver stayed at the scene, police said.
An investigation is ongoing by the NYPD's Highway Collision Investigation Squad, police said.

At least eight other people have been injured in six crashes at the same intersection since 2011, including four drivers, three pedestrians and one cyclist, according to city data.
