Man Accused Of Attempted Rape In Long Island City Building: NYPD

LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — A 43-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after trying to rape a woman inside a building in Long Island City, police said.

Damel Dennis faces an attempted rape charge on accusations he attacked a 34-year-old woman Feb. 8 in a bathroom inside a Crescent Street building, near 41st Avenue, before another person helped her, the NYPD said.

When the woman left the bathroom about 10 p.m., she saw Dennis exposing his genitals and she tried to shut the door on him, but he pushed his way inside the bathroom, authorities said.

Dennis attempted to pull her pants down, she screamed, and a passerby confronted the man, police said.

The man — Dennis, police say — ran away toward the Queensboro Plaza subway station, the NYPD said.
