New Astoria Soft-Serve Shop Opening This Weekend, With $2 Cones
Marvel Frozen Dairy, a Long Island-based dessert staple, is opening Saturday just off 30th Avenue — with $2 cones all day to celebrate.
ASTORIA, QUEENS — The upper-70-degree temperatures forecast for this weekend mark the perfect moment for Astoria's newest food opening: a soft-serve ice cream spot.
Marvel Frozen Dairy will open 3 p.m Saturday at 37-01 30th Ave., facing 37th Street. To celebrate, Marvel will dish out $2 cones all afternoon, the shop announced on Instagram this week.
Astoria marks the third location for Marvel, a "dessert staple" that first opened in 1951 on Lido Beach, Long Island, as ABC7 reported last year. Their second location is a stand on the Long Beach Boardwalk.

"We can’t wait to welcome you all," the shop said in a post on Tueday, alongside a tantalizing photo of a chocolate shake with a vanilla float and rainbow sprinkles.
Moving into the storefront formerly home to Cream, a short-lived ice cream shop, Marvel will be open daily between 3 and 10 p.m. Besides standard flavors like vanilla and chocolate, the menu will also include vegan flavors including birthday cake, mango, and eventually raspberry.

Marvel's current owners, the Fragioudakis family, are the third Greek-American family to own the shop since it opened 71 years ago, according to ABC7 — making it a natural fit in Astoria.
