LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — Just a month after revealing it would open in the former Long Island City Stop & Shop space, the Asian grocer H Mart has announced its opening date.

The supermarket will open Nov. 22 at 10 a.m., an H Mart spokesperson confirmed Monday.

That makes for a relatively short vacancy at the sprawling space at 34-51 48th St., just south of Northern Boulevard, where Stop & Shop closed permanently on Oct. 20 after a review of its "operating performance."

Patch broke the news last month that H Mart would take its place, sparking a wave of excitement for fans of the chain's broad variety of Asian snacks, produce, seafood and prepared dishes.

The location off Northern Boulevard is arguably closest to Sunnyside, though both H Mart and its predecessor Stop & Shop have referred to the area as Long Island City.

"Taste the Asian flavors at H Mart Long Island City," reads a "coming soon" notice affixed to the doors of the market building on Monday.

"Enjoy the freshest produce, meat, seafood, Asian groceries and housewares. Your one-stop shop for everything Asian and more, right in the neighborhood."

H Mart is hiring widely for jobs at the new location, according to the poster.

H Mart has dozens of locations across the U.S., but began in Woodside as a modest Korean grocery store. That original location closed for renovations months ago, and an H Mart spokesperson told Patch last month that the Woodside shop has an independent owner unaffiliated with the rest of the company.

The company has not shared any details about the new store's offerings or its planned hours.

The new H Mart may soon have some competition: Patch reported last week that a separate, two-floor Asian supermarket is being planned as part of a new building on 30th Street and 38th Avenue about a mile away.
