Pedestrian Killed Crossing Grand Central Parkway Near Astoria: NYPD
The 44-year-old man was trying to cross the highway, just steps from a pedestrian overpass, when he was struck by an SUV, police said.

ASTORIA, QUEENS — A man was fatally struck by a driver when he tried to walk across the Grand Central Parkway Wednesday night, police said.
The 44-year-old man tried to cross from the highway's north to south side about 9 p.m. Wednesday, just steps from a pedestrian overpass near 73rd Street, police say.
As he walked across the parkway, a 35-year-old man driving a BMW X5 SUV eastbound hit the pedestrian in the highway's left lane, police said.

Police responding to a 911 call found the pedestrian unconscious and unresponsive, lying on the road with trauma across his body, authorities say. He was pronounced dead at NYC Health & Hospitals/Elmhurst.
The driver stayed at the scene and was uninjured, police said. There have been no arrests, but an investigation is ongoing.

The victim's name is being withheld pending family notification, police said.
All eastbound lanes of the Grand Central Parkway were shut down for around two hours following the crash, according to city alerts.
