Pickleball Club To Open In Long Island City Amid Sport Craze

CityPickle, a pickleball club that opened temporary spots last year, will open permanently at The Woodworks at 9-03 44th Road.

LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — The neighborhood is welcoming its first indoor pickleball club during this year’s warmer months as pickleball is expected to pick up again.

CityPickle, a pickleball club that opened temporary spots last year, will open permanently at The Woodworks at 9-03 44th Road later in spring 2023.

“In addition to four pickleball courts, our venue will have a full restaurant and bar,” reads an Instagram post by CityPickle.

Two other temporary locations were stationed at the TWA Hotel's tarmac at John F. Kennedy airport and Hudson Yards.

The racket ball sport has gained popularity among children and adults in the last five years, especially riding some momentum during the warmer months. Pickleball is considered the fastest-growing sport in the country, garnering more than 4 million players nationwide.

The pickleball craze has created some debate in the city, with players creating turf battles in some parks, while the sport has been banned in other courts altogether.
