Queer Bar In Astoria Targeted By Robbers: Owner

QUEENS — A bar for the queer community in Astoria was robbed on Friday morning, according to the owner, Pedro Alvarado.

Kween, located at 34-10 30th Ave., was robbed about 5 a.m. on Friday, with cameras from nearby businesses catching two men breaking into the bar, Alvarado said.

“We’re extremely saddened by the event but we hope the NYPD catches the responsible for this horrible attack toward our community," Alvarado told Patch. “This is a safe space for all and these kinds of actions can’t be tolerated."

The suspects allegedly broke into the bar's lockbox and stole the safe from the business.

Alvarado said that the suspects also stole computers, the security camera system, iPads, microphones, liquor, cases of Red Bull, and backpacks belonging to the staff. Tech and payment systems were damaged in the robbery, Alvarado said.

Alvarado is asking the community to provide any leads to find the suspects.

The owner did not disclose the total worth of all the stolen property.
