Retro Asian Pop Bar Opens In Long Island City
929 opened its doors on Saturday, bringing Chinese-inspired cocktails to 27th Street.

LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — A bar inspired by the owner's favorite music in Hong Kong and China opened over the weekend in Long Island City.
929 opened its doors on Saturday, bringing a traditional Chinese lion dance performance and Chinese-inspired cocktails to 42-45 27th St.
“Growing up, I didn’t know anyone who shared my interests and struggled to find a sense of belonging," said Haoran Chen, owner of the bar. "I started 929 not just to celebrate the things I love, but also to create a space for anyone who, like me, struggled to find a community."

Customers can order cocktails with a whiskey base and Nin Jiom Herbal Syrup, a traditional herbal syrup commonly used as a cough remedy, as well as drinks with a taste of yinyeung, a classic Hong Kong beverage combining coffee and tea.
The bar also showcases the owner's vinyl records in 929, along with a turntable to play Canto- and Mando-pop tunes. Each cocktail on the menu is named after his favorite artists from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China.
