Ronald Reagan Republican Club Coming To Astoria, Curtis Sliwa Vows
Sliwa, who ran for mayor in 2021, launched the Ronald Reagan Republican club to rebuke the democratic socialist shift in Astoria.

ASTORIA, QUEENS — After Astoria constituents voted for a slew of progressive lawmakers to represent their districts, Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa created a Ronald Reagan club to challenge the political shift in the neighborhood.
Sliwa, who ran for mayor in 2021, launched the Ronald Reagan Republican club in Astoria to rebuke the democratic socialist shift that has taken hold of the neighborhood after voters helped seat members such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Council Member Tiffany Cabán.
The Republican club aims to “bring conservative values to the forefront of local politics,” according to a statement released Wednesday by Maria Sliwa, Curtis' sister, and his PR representative.

The statement said the group promotes fiscal responsibility, small government, and lower taxes in Queens.
"We’re going into the belly of the beast of the Democratic Socialists of America in New York City,” Sliwa said. “We’re going to take on AOC and Caban.”

Cabán didn’t take long to react over Twitter.
“The UWS’s most deranged right winger wants to come to Queens and tell us how to live,” she said.
Cabán said Sliwa is scared of her and Ocasio-Cortez’s “vision for democracy, economic stability, and true public safety.”
The red-beret-wearing Guardian Angels leader lost against Mayor Eric Adams in his 2021 electoral run but has remained on the sidelines combating several political issues in the city.
Earlier this year, he heavily criticized Adams’ strategy to combat pervasive rodents in New York City by going to the mayor’s home to offer a cat patrol.
Now he’s coming for Astoria, which has seen a shift toward more progressive candidates representing the area. The democratic socialist Kristen Gonzalez was sworn in as senator earlier this year, becoming the youngest woman to join the upper branch of Congress.
