Woman Found Dead With Knife In Her Back In Astoria Houses: NYPD

The 64-year-old woman was found dead in her apartment Wednesday morning, police say.

ASTORIA, QUEENS -- A 64-year-old Queens woman was found dead with a knife in her back in the Astoria Houses on Wednesday morning, police said.

Cops found Donna Blanchard, of Astoria, unconscious inside her apartment at the 28-02 8th St. complex with the knife gauged into her back at around 9:50 a.m., authorities said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are waiting for a Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death but are treating Blanchard's death as a homicide.

Her son could be heard on the streets outside the crime scene crying out, "Who killed my mom," CBS New York reported.

Cops discovered the gruesome murder scene after a home health aide couldn't get into Blanchard's apartment and called her daughter, the New York Daily News reported.

The two walked in together and found Blanchard lying on the kitchen floor with the knife still in her back, sources told the Daily News.
