Work Begins On Northern Boulevard Protected Bike Lane

The bike lane is technically temporary, because it will need approval from local community boards and officials to become permanent.

ASTORIA, QUEENS — The city is starting work this week on a temporary protected bike lane along Northern Boulevard.

The bike lane will run from 41st Avenue to Broadway, where it will turn onto Broadway and continue until 60th Street, according to the city's Department of Transportation.

"We applaud the Department of Transportation for adding more temporary protected bike lanes, and we're eager to work together to turn these temporary lanes into permanent infrastructure for New Yorkers who bike," Danny Harris, executive director of the nonprofit advocacy group Transportation Alternatives, said in a statement when the plan was announced in June.
