Work Starts On $2.2M Hallets Cove Playground Renovation
The city broke ground Thursday on a $2.2 million project to rebuild Hallets Cove Park's playground on the Astoria waterfront.
ASTORIA, QUEENS — The city broke ground Thursday on a $2.2 million project to rebuild the Hallets Cove Park playground in Astoria.
The redesigned waterfront playground will have new play equipment, game tables, seating, landscaping and pavement, as well as an ADA-compliant entry ramp, according to the parks department.
Construction is expected to wrap up by the end of 2020, the agency said.

"Hallets Cove Playground is being completely reimagined with enhanced access to outdoor play," NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver said in a statement.
Project funding came from Mayor Bill de Blasio, the City Council and Queens Borough President Melinda Katz.

The playground renovation is among several city projects revamping Hallets Cove Park, which include an overhaul of its asphalt sports field and repairs to the park's concrete seawall.
