Babylon Alum Named Interim Nassau CC Football Coach

Joe "Oz" Osovet has been put in charge of the Nassau Community football team for the rest of the season.

A Babylon Junior-Senior High School graduate has been named the interim head coach for the Nassau County Community College football team.

Babylon native Joe Osovet has been put in charge of the football team after former coach Curtis Gilliam resigned for personal reasons, spokesman Chuck Cutolo told Newsday.

Osovet, 41, had been serving as the team's offensive coordinator this season before being moved into the head coaching role.

Osovet, or "Oz," was a 1991 graduate of Babylon Junior-Senior High School. He played runningback and safety for the Panthers in the early 1990's and was selected to an All-Long Island team.

Osovet played for Nassau Community for two years before transferring to Northeastern University.

Nassau Community College is currently ranked 17th nationally and, at 7-1, among the top teams to win the Northeast Football Conference.
