BABYLON, NY — Babylon Superintendent of Schools Linda Rozzi, who faced scrutiny in recent months after claims of sexual abuse within the district, is expected to resign.

According to the agenda for Monday's Babylon Board of Education meeting, members will be asked to accept Rozzi's letter of intent to retire on July 31.

"During the many years I have served as your Superintendent of Schools, I was blessed with a supportive, informed and thoughtful Board of Education, paired with conscientious colleagues and a supportive Babylon Community," Rozzi wrote.

The agenda states that the board received Rozzi's letter on June 29, 2021. Her salary in the 2021-2022 school year is $321,683 including benefits, according to data.

Rozzi, who first stepped into the role in 2015, has received criticism in recent months after dozens of alumni claimed they were sexually and emotionally abused by teachers as students.

Many alumni publicly came forward after a science teacher was escorted out of a classroom, after the district reported it had received "disturbing allegations." Suffolk County Police confirmed after an investigation that no criminal activity was found. The teacher later resigned.

Attorney General Letitia James opened an official investigation into the district in November.

Rozzi also faced opposition after a board meeting last month, where many claimed survivors of sexual abuse told Patch they were interrupted, silenced, and felt disrespected by Rozzi and the board's behavior.

Monday night's virtual meeting will be streamed on Zoom and will be open for the public at 7:30 p.m.
