WHITESTONE, QUEENS — New Yorkers can get a bacon egg and cheese at just about any bodega or bagel shop, but only one bagelry in northeast Queens makes a sledgehammer-sized iteration of the beloved breakfast sandwich.

Nicholas Heller, a filmmaker best known as his alias New York Nico, tasked Utopia Bagels with making "the world's biggest bacon egg and cheese" on Sunday.

The shop's co-owner, Scott Spellman, obliged, baking a 10 pound version of one of its award-winning bagels, and then stacking it tall with eggs, cheese, and extra crispy bacon, a New York Nico video shows.

It didn't get a Guinness World Record award, but the bagel sandwich weighed in at about 20 pounds, according to co-owner Scott Spellman (who was only holding about half the sandwich at the time of the weigh-in, meaning the full thing could have weighed it at close to 50 pounds).

Utopia Bagels, which is located at 1909 Utopia Parkway across the Clearview Golf Course from Bay Terrace, is no stranger to making headlines: the consistently well-reviewed bagelry was recently crowned NYC's most popular bagel shop (its latest accolade among many).
