6 Things to Do This Fourth of July Weekend In Queens
Some suggestions for celebrating the Fourth of July in Queens, including a BBQ-slash-dance party and drive-in movie with fireworks.
QUEENS, NY — Whether or not you're in the mood to celebrate the nation this weekend there's still good food and events to be had this Fourth of July in New York City, patriotism aside.
While many of the city's most holiday-centric events are in Manhattan, namely the annual Macy's 4th of July Fireworks show, you can still get citywide views of the fireworks (more on that below) or make the most of the holiday without leaving Queens.
Some of the borough's highlights include a pool party, drive-in movie bonanza and BBQ-slash-music event.

Or, if you'd rather do something more low-key, there are plenty of chances to get outside and chill (or grill), especially during what is gearing up to be a hot holiday weekend.
No matter how patriotic you're feeling this holiday weekend, here's six ways to celebrate the Fourth of July weekend in Queens.

1. Grill in the park. From Queensbridge Park in northwest Queens to Alley Pond Park in northeast Queens, there are designated BBQ areas in green spaces across the borough. Just remember to follow park rules. Children younger than 18, for instance, technically cannot barbecue.
2. Watch fireworks. You can see the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks show without leaving Queens. Hunter's Point and Queensbridge Park are both ideal viewing spots.
3. Or watch a movie. Skyline Drive-in is organizing a movie-slash-firework viewing starting at 2 p.m. Monday. Details here.
4. Go to a pool party. Project 91 is organizing a pool party, including music and food (poolside, of course), from noon to 10 p.m. Sunday. Tickets cost $70 per-person. Details here.
5. Or a BBQ-slash-dance party. If you'd rather dance, and/or go to a more affordable event, consider this backyard BBQ (with a DJ) at Nowadays in Ridgewood from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. Tickets cost $5. Details here.
6. Volunteer to help a neighbor in need. While it's not Fourth of July-themed per-say, there's never really a bad time to assist a neighbor. There's two food donation events happening in Queens this weekend through New York Cares, a volunteer service. Find out more here.
