6-Year-Old Helps Secure Over $73,000 In Funds For Bayside School

BAYSIDE, QUEENS — More than $73,000 were secured for a school in Bayside after a 6-year-old boy sent a letter to a State Senator asking for the funds and continued to follow up for four years.

Maxwell Rosenfeld, now 10 years old, sent a letter to State Senator John Liu in 2019 requesting technology funds for P.S. 376Q in Bayside. Liu announced this week that the school will receive $73,500 to upgrade its technology equipment.

“Technology helps us learn better and will prepare us for the future," said Rosenfeld. "I'm proud I was able to force Senator Liu to do the right thing.”

“Elected officials often get requests for funding, but this request was unique because of Max’s young age, his knowledge about how the system works, and especially his dogged persistence," Liu said.

The senator said the pandemic slowed the request down.
