SUV Slams Into 74-Year-Old Woman In Bayside Crosswalk, Police Say
The elderly woman remained in critical condition as of Tuesday morning, police said.

BAYSIDE, QUEENS — A 74-year-old woman clings to life after she was hit by an SUV in a Bayside crosswalk Monday, according to the NYPD.
The SUV slammed into the woman as it turned from 26th Avenue onto Corporal Kennedy Street about 1 p.m., police said.
The 43-year-old woman driving the SUV then smashed into a Nissan Sedan waiting for the red light at the intersection, according to the NYPD. The 63-year-old Nissan driver wasn't hurt in the crash, police said.

First responders found the 74-year-old woman lying in the street with severe head injuries and rushed her to a nearby hospital in "critical condition," the NYPD announced Tuesday morning.
As of Tuesday morning there are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing, police said.

The crash is the latest case in which an elderly pedestrian was struck by a driver in northeast Queens.
Earlier this year, an 83-year-old driver backing out of a garage in Oakland Gardens fatally pinned a 75-year-old pedestrian under his vehicle, Patch reported.
Last year, at least a couple older woman died after getting hit by cars while walking in Bayside and Auburndale, Patch reported.
These deaths come as a pandemic surge in reckless driving has led to the city's deadliest streets in years.
