The text of the petition is as follows:
We, the People of Bay Terrace, hereby declare our rights as residents of the community of Bayside, Queens.
WHEREAS the residents of Bay Terrace live in and identify ourselves as residents of the greater community of Bayside, and
WHEREAS we are and have always been part of the historical, geographical, governmental, social and religious fabric of the community of Bayside, and
WHEREAS the City of New York severed our local governmental ties to the community of Bayside by transferring Bay Terrace from Community Board 11 to Community Board 7, and
WHEREAS the residents of Bay Terrace have been forced to remain within Community Board 7 against our will, and
WHEREAS police presence and response time are critical to the safety of the residents of Bay Terrace, and whereas Bay Terrace is served by the 109th Police Precinct in downtown Flushing instead of the 111th Precinct located in Bayside less than half the distance away, and
WHEREAS one of the purposes of community boards is to preserve and foster communities, and
WHEREAS the residents of Bay Terrace wish to reclaim our identity as part of the greater community of Bayside,
BE IT RESOLVED, the residents of Bay Terrace hereby appeal to the City of New York and declare that the community of Bay Terrace is and should be part of the community of Bayside, Community Board 11 and the 111th Police Precinct.
