UPDATE: Public Schools Open Today, After-school Programs A Go

Update, 8:57 a.m.: Schools chancellor Cathie Black announced after-school programs are ON for today, Jan. 12.

New York City public schools will remain open today, Jan. 12, the city Department of Education announced shortly after 5 a.m.

It will be determined whether after-school programs and PSAL events will continue as scheduled at 10 a.m.

New York City schools have closed six times since 1978, for a total of eight snow days.
