Bayside Chain Store Openings Recover Slowly After Pandemic: Data

BAYSIDE, QUEENS — National chain store openings in Bayside saw a small decrease this year as it’s still lagging behind compared to the number of stores that were stationed in the neighborhood before the pandemic outbreak.

National chain store openings were down slightly in one of Bayside’s zip codes in 2022 compared to the year before, while the other zip code remained static, according to the report released Wednesday by the Center for an Urban Future.

The 11361 zip code had 41 chain stores in 2022, compared to 43 in 2021, while the 11360 zip code remained unchanged with 27 stores.

Those numbers are slightly lower than the number of chain stores in the neighborhood before the pandemic. The 11361 zip code had 44 stores, while the second zip code had 31 stores.

The top national chain retailers in Queens are Dunkin, Subway, T-Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile, Baskin Robbins, and Duane Reade.

In Queens, Elmhurst was the top neighborhood for chain retailer locations with 128 stores, up from 125 in 2021, thanks largely to the Queens Center Mall.
