Bayside Fire Critically Injures 2 On Bell Boulevard, FDNY Says

The fire broke out in a commercial building on a busy stretch of Bell Boulevard.

BAYSIDE, QUEENS — Two people were critically injured when a fire broke out in a commercial building on a busy Bayside street, an FDNY spokesman said.

The fire broke out on the second floor of a two-story building at 42-28 Bell Bouelvard, located between 42nd and 43rd avenues, shortly after 3 p.m., an FDNY spokesman said. Firefighters had the main body of the fire knocked down within 30 minutes, the spokesman said.

Firefighters placed the scene under control shortly before 4 p.m., fire officials said.

Photos from the scene of the fire showed heavy flames bursting out of a second floor window of what appears to be a building with a ground-floor restaurant. The business'awning burned up in the fire, according to witness photos.

Google Maps lists the two tenants of the building as Snowdays, a frozen food restaurant, and a massage parlor.

Two civilians were transported to area hospitals in critical condition, an FDNY spokesman said.

The cause of the fire will be investigated by city fire marshals, fire officials said.
