BAYSIDE, QUEENS — The city is brightening up Bayside Hills with a set of new, energy-efficient street lamps, according to a news report.
The NYC Department of Transportation is installing six lampposts on the median along Bell Boulevard between 48th Avenue and 50th Avenue, QNS.com reported.
Energy-efficient, longer-lasting LED lights will replace the median's high pressure sodium lights, which have a lifespan of about six years, the DOT says. LED lights may last up to 20 years.

The switch is part of a citywide initiative that dates back to the Bloomberg administration, according to QNS.com.
Former Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced in 2013 that the agency would install LED bulbs in all street lights, one of many energy efficiency goals he outlined in a plan to curb greenhouse gas emissions.
