Bayside Hills Jubilee Clock Is Shining Once Again

A clock that has been telling time in Bayside for more than two decades will once again set the neighborhood aglow.

BAYSIDE HILLS, QUEENS — A clock that has been telling time in Bayside for more than two decades will once again set the neighborhood aglow.

The Bayside Hills jubilee clock, which the local civic association erected in 1996 in the narrow triangle between Bell Boulevard and 214th Street, received a set of repairs to turns its lights back on.

Thanks to the help of Bayside Hills Civic Association member Jack Niedermeyer, the clock's light sensor and wiring were completely replaced.

The landmark clock was restored in 2015, after languishing in a state of disrepair, the Queens Chronicle reported at the time.

Longtime resident Jay Koellner installed new dials and back lighting and sanded and painted the clock.

The clock was built to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Bayside Hills and "the honor and memory of those residents who labored since 1936 to preserve the character and integrity" of the neighborhood, according to a plaque at the site.
