BAYSIDE, QUEENS — A teenage girl was sexually harassed by her classmate for months, and officials at their Bayside middle school did little to stop it, the girl's parents claim in an interview with the New York Post.

The parents say the harassment started in September, when their eighth-grader's classmate at Marie Curie Middle School started asking her to have sex and asked about her bra size, the Post reported.

At one point, the boy even pulled his pants down in a classroom and told a classmate to get the girl to join him, but teachers only gave him detention, the girl's father told the Post.

The family called the police at the end of November, after the boy groped their daughter and school administrators wavered on a punishment.

"She just said she was so scared," the girl's mother told the Post. "This really has a big impact on a young child. And these schools don’t do anything."

The boy was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of forcible touching for the incident on Nov. 26, according to the Post.

"Students deserve safe and supportive environments, and schools must report all incidents and notify parents," Department of Education spokesperson Miranda Barbot told the Post. "We are looking into this further and will take any action necessary."
