BAYSIDE, QUEENS — Gunfire erupted on a residential block in Bayside early Saturday, leaving one teenager hurt and neighbors in shock, according to the NYPD.

The shots rang out at about 3 a.m. on 208th Street near 38th Avenue, hitting a 19-year-old who was sitting in a car at the time, police said, adding that the victim was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

Police did not confirm how many shots were fired, but neighbors told the New York Post they heard nearly two dozen gunshots, and that bullets hit multiple cars on the block — points which were reiterated on a public neighborhood Facebook page.

"Omg in Bayside?" wrote Susanne Curro, who grew up in the neighborhood. "This never happened there. Bayside was always so quiet," she added.

Others, however, said that the neighborhood has changed in recent years.

"Every day somebody wakes up to find their car stolen, their wheels stolen, their tires stolen, or their catalytic converter stolen [in Bayside]," claimed one neighbor, suggesting that people would be safer if they lived in Florida.

The shooting in Bayside comes during a particularly bloody weekend in New York City, where a wave of shootings and stabbings left more than 30 locals injured and at least one dead, Patch reported.
