Baysider's Olympic Contest Among Team USA's Top Moments: Report
Dalilah Muhammad broke the world record in the 400 meter hurdle for the silver medal, marking an Olympic highlight according to the NY Post.
BAYSIDE, QUEENS — Dalilah Muhammad’s record-breaking contest in the 400 meter hurdle against teammate Sydney McLaughlin was among the best U.S. moments from the Olympic games, according to a new report.
The list, compiled by the New York Post, ranks Muhammad and McLaughlin’s contest — which both have insisted is a friendly rivalry — as among Team USA’s best Olympic moments.
While the Post pointed out that McLaughlin’s gold medal time of 51.46 seconds set a new world record, they didn’t mention that Muhammad — who crossed the finish line in 51.58 for silver — also broke the existing record-setting time of 51.90, which her teammate set at the Olympic trials in June.

"Someone put it in perspective to me that the four times that we've competed [against each other] we've got four world records," Muhammad told Today after the event, adding that the friendly competition between the teammates causes them to push each other. "It's definitely iron sharpening," she said.
While Muhammad didn't defend her gold title in this event, she overcame many setbacks to get silver.

This spring, the born-and-raised Queens athlete, who attended Bayside's Cardozo High School, suffered a hamstring injury and a fight against the coronavirus.
“Couldn’t be more proud,” Muhammad posted on social media following her event — and Baysiders agree, many of whom took to social media themselves to celebrate her silver medal.
“She was my student at Cardozo. Very, very proud,” commented one local on an area Facebook post sharing the news of Muhammad’s race.
The post garnered over 800 likes and nearly 100 other comments from neighbors sharing congratulations with the Queens athlete.
Lucky for supporters, this isn't the last they’ll see of Muhammad. She told Today that she plans to run a couple more races this year, and is looking forward to the 2022 World Championships, slated for next summer in Oregon.
"We talk so much about being at the pinnacle of your career. For me, it doesn't feel like the top. For me, it just feels like it's part of the journey, and the journey is not over yet," she told the New York Times.
