BAYSIDE, QUEENS — A series of classic car shows in Bayside this summer raised thousands of dollars for a local children’s hospital.

The series of free car shows, which took place at the Bay Terrace Shopping Center in partnership with Cord Meyer Development Company, brought classic cars from the Queens Classic Car Club, live music, and a charity raffle benefiting Saint Mary's Hospital for Children to the shopping center’s parking lot.

All told, locals raised $3,000 for the hospital through the raffle. Cord Meyer donated an additional $10,000 in the form of a sponsorship for the hospital’s upcoming Big Hearts Walk fundraiser, too.

The donations will benefit Saint Mary’s award-winning services, including the hospital’s medical day care program for young adults with disabilities, which is the only one in the state.

Cord Meyer CEO Matthew Whalen described this summer's car show as “hugely-popular,” adding that it solidified the Bay Terrace Shopping Center as “a true community destination” where neighbors can “come together for important local causes.”

In June, the shopping center hosted a job fair and free pop-up boutique for people in need.
