NYPD Officer Stabbed in Queens, Police Say

Swarms of cops were reportedly searching for the suspect Friday afternoon in a wooded area near Cunningham Park.

Update, 4:45 p.m.: The suspect was apprehended and detained in the vicinity of the stabbing, according to the NYPD.

An off-duty NYPD officer was stabbed in the neck by an unidentified woman in Queens’ Cunningham Park around 2 p.m. on Friday afternoon, according to the NYPD.

The suspect tried to steal the female officer’s pocketbook before the assault, but did not succeed, an NYPD spokesman told Patch.

As of 3:15 p.m., the officer was listed in stable condition at the North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset.

According to an ABC7 report, the suspect fled eastbound in Cunningham Park, toward Union Turnpike.

“She was described as a woman in her late 30s, wearing a grey hoodie with red stripes and blue jeans,” the report said.

Swarms of police searched for the suspect for at least an hour in the wooded area near the park, and police helicopters were spotted by neighbors overhead.
