Cardozo High School Student Arrested After Carrying Loaded Gun: NYPD

BAYSIDE, QUEENS — A 14-year-old student was arrested after staff at Cardozo High School found the teenager was carrying a loaded gun inside the school on Tuesday, police said.

School safety agents found the boy was carrying a semi-automatic firearm about 12:30 p.m., and officers placed the teenager under custody, the NYPD said.

Police said that charges are pending.

Meagan Colby, the principal at Cardozo High School, wrote in a letter to parents that the gun was found in the boy’s school bag, and there were no injuries.

“We assure you that every precaution was taken and will continue to be taken to ensure the safety of our students and staff,” Colby said. “There was no disruption to the regular school day.”
