City Will Spray For Mosquitoes In Eastern Queens This Week
Nonresidential areas of Eastern Queens are getting a hit of mosquito-killing pesticides this week.

DOUGLASTON, QUEENS — Eastern Queens is getting a hit of mosquito-killing pesticides this week.
The NYC Health Department will send a low-flying helicopter to spray for mosquitoes in nonresidential areas of east Queens from July 17 to July 19 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., part of an effort to reduce the risk of West Nile virus.
Areas getting sprayed are Alley Creek in Alley Pond Park, the abandoned Flushing airport in College Point, Kissena Park, Brookville Park, Dubos Point and Edgemere Park.

The agency says it will use an environmentally-friendly larvicide called VectoLex® FG, which has been approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
