City Will Spray For Mosquitoes In Northeast Queens This Week

DOUGLASTON, QUEENS — Northeastern Queens is getting a dose of mosquito-killing pesticides this week.

The Health Department will send trucks through parts of Douglaston, Bay Terrace, Little Neck, Auburndale, College Point, Fort Totten, Malba and Whitestone starting Tuesday, Aug. 6 at 8:30 p.m. and ending the next morning at 6 a.m., weather permitting.

Zip codes getting the pesticides are: 11004, 11005, 11040, 11362, 11426, 11354, 11356, 11357, 11358, 11359 and 11360.

To stay safe during spraying, residents should stay inside whenever possible and wash any clothing or skin exposed to pesticides with soap and water, according to Health Department officials.

There's no need to turn off air conditioners, officials said, but residents may choose to close their AC vents.

The agency says it will use low concentrations of the pesticides Anvil® 10+10 and/or DeltaGard®, which could affect people with respiratory conditions and cause short-term eye or throat irritation for others sensitive to those ingredients.
