Elderly Man Dies After Crashing Car Into Tree In Douglaston: NYPD
The 81-year-old Douglaston resident succumbed to his injuries ten days after smashing the car into a roadside tree, police said.
DOUGLASTON, QUEENS — An elderly man died after crashing a car into a tree in Douglaston last month, police said.
On Feb. 17 at about 7:30 p.m., William Chan, 81, was driving a sedan on Douglaston Parkway when he veered onto a residential patch of grass near Rushmore Avenue and smashed the car into a tree, according to the NYPD.
First responders, who found Chan injured and unresponsive, took him to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries ten days later, police announced this week.

Police did not specify what caused the elderly Douglaston resident to drive from the road onto the grass.
Chan's death came during a month when fatal car crashes plagued New York City, with drivers killing a Holocaust survivor, a teenage girl and a Brooklyn mom, among others.
