Former Bayside City Council Member Endorsed By Borough President

Avella is running for City Council in District 19, where elections are slated to be held this summer after district lines were shuffled.

BAYSIDE, QUEENS — Queens Borough President Donovan Richards endorsed former Council Member and State Senator Tony Avella in his run to represent Bayside, Douglaston, Little Neck, and other neighborhoods.

“Tony has been an advocate for Northeast Queens his entire life, and it is now more important than ever that we have someone who will fight for the community,” said Richards.

Avella is running for City Council in District 19, where elections are slated to be held this summer after district lines were shuffled.

The Democratic candidate, who served as a Council Member for the same district from 2002 to 2009, will run against Republican Vickie Paladino, who currently represents the district.

The former senator lost against Paladino in the 2021 general election.

In June, New Yorkers will get the chance to vote for 51 City Council seats after the boundaries were redrawn last year amid a population change reflected in the 2020 Census.

Assemblyman Edward C. Braunstein, Senator Toby Ann Stavisky, Assemblyman David Weprin, and others have endorsed Avella for his 2023 run.
