BAYSIDE, QUEENS — Major crimes were on the decline in Bayside last month, a pace that matched trends citywide, according to a recently-released report by the Police Department.

Citywide, major crimes declined by an average of four percent in June when compared to last year. In Bayside, that number was down about 8.3 percent over the same time period.

Still, grand theft auto was on the rise in Bayside and across all five boroughs "driven by the theft of motorcycles and the well-documented exploitation of vulnerabilities in the ignition system of certain Kia and Hyundai models," NYPD officials said in a statement.

The biggest drop in the 111th Precinct, which encompasses Bayside, Douglaston, Little Neck, Auburndale, Hollis Hills, and Fresh Meadows, was seen in felony assaults.

Those types of attacks, which involve physical injuries, fell from seven to three in June compared to the same period last year.
