Great Escape: Spa Castle

A Korean spa retreat

Your teens are holding a car wash at the high school on Saturday. The grandparents volunteered to take the younger children to a movie Sunday afternoon. Your tweens take tap on Wednesday evening.  It’s your time. Take it.

Each week, we’ll tell you about one great idea to give you a much deserved break, and make your life a little easier, maybe a whole lot easier.

Today the editor's pick is Spa Castle in College Point.  Spa Castle is a veritable theme park for adults. Wholly living up to its name, Spa Castle boasts "100,000 square feet of luxury serenity," with five stories of saunas, jacuzzis, pools, with different themes, smells, decors and temperatures; a salt sauna, built with blocks of salt from the Himalayas, and an Iceland cool sauna room are just two examples of the creativity and variety of experiences to be had.

There's something else truly different about this place: for two of the five floors, men and women are separated, and encouraged to go nude in the Korean spa style. If that isn't your cup of tea, the three other floors (where people are dressed), include a large but still serene food court, and are enough for an afternoon's fun.

Entrance and unlimited use of most spa facilities (pools, saunas, massage chairs) is only $35 on weekdays and $45 on weekends. Massages, facials, other spa treatments, and food do cost extra—though little goodies you can take home with you like packs of Korean facial scrubs are only a few dollars each. They are open seven days per week from 6 a.m. to midnight—stay as long as you like.
