BAYSIDE, QUEENS — A historic restaurant in Whitestone will close its doors after more than 80 years in business.

The Clinton will open for the last time on Sunday, June 25th, after setting up shop in 1939, according to a Facebook post by the restaurant.

"We are honored that we were chosen to have been a part of so many of our customer’s celebrations," the post reads.

The restaurant building, owned by the Babich family for over three generations, was constructed in 1902 and served as a speakeasy during Prohibition, according to The Clinton's website.

DeWitt Clinton, former governor of New York during the mid-1800s, would spend his summers in the neighborhood and local residents began calling the restaurant "The Clinton" until it became the official name.
