Little Neck Eatery Tops 'Hottest' Queens' Eateries List

A Hong Kong-style restaurant serving up Cantonese comfort foods on Northern Boulevard is among the "hottest" spots in Queens, Eater says.

LITTLE NECK, QUEENS — A Cantonese restaurant that opened in Little Neck a couple of months ago is already among the 'hottest' restaurants in Queens, critics say.

Sweet Wonton House, a Hong Kong-style restaurant serving Cantonese classics, was named among the 15 "hottest new restaurants in Queens" by Eater editors this month.

The eatery opened at the end of last year on the corner of Northern Boulevard and Westmoreland Street, but it's already among the list of restaurants in Queens frequented by "NYC's dining obsessives," Eater says.

Editors described the eatery, which houses a handful of tables inside a nondescript gray building, as a "cozy, fast-casual" restaurant that saves northeast Queens residents a drive to Flushing for "stick-to-your ribs Cantonese comfort foods."

Among the many soup, noodle, and congee menu items, editors most recommend Sweet Wonton House's dim sum options, like "siu mai" pork and shrimp dumplings, beef rice rolls, and — above all else — the wonton soups.

Editors say that "yum cha snobs" — those who swear by the traditional Cantonese tea and dim sum brunch tradition — won't be let down by the soups, which are made from a base of "unctuous bone broth" and dotted with "delicate dumplings filled with juicy chunks of shrimp."

This isn't the first time that Eater editors recognized a northeast Queens restaurant as one of the borough's best new spots: editors named two Korean eateries in the area as among Queens' hottest new restaurants last month.

Sweet Wonton House is located at 253-25 Northern Boulevard, and is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.
