BAYSIDE, QUEENS — A closer look into the district that voted for Republican George Santos in November revealed that the majority of them now want him to resign, according to a new poll.

Two-thirds of constituents said they would not have voted for the embattled Republican in November if they knew what they know about him now.

“NY 3 voters overwhelmingly and unambiguously say Rep. Santos should resign," Siena College Poll Director Don Levy said. "Whether you look it at by party, gender, race, age, religion, income, or which county the voters live in, the answer is the same: resign.”

On Tuesday, Santos took the first step toward satisfying some of those wishes. The Republican told his colleagues that he would temporarily recuse himself from sitting on his congressional committees, according to the New York Times.

Santos represents areas of Bayside and Long Island, where 78 percent of voters believe he should resign.

The Republican lawmaker has come under fire after several reports revealed he fabricated his educational and professional experience, lied about his Jewish background, and faced a fraud case in Brazil. Santos is also facing county, state, and federal criminal investigations.

Santos is also accused of lying about his mother being in 9/11 and having employees who died in the Pulse nightclub shooting. Several lawmakers, including Bronx Rep. Ritchie Torres, have called for his campaign finances to be looked at by the Federal Election Commission.

Santos was also accused of taking $3,000 from a GoFundMe he had set up to pay for the veterinary bills of a dying dog owned by a disabled veteran.

Another Siena poll revealed that New Yorkers across the city want him to resign by a 39 percent margin. Voters view Santos unfavorably, including 55 percent of Democrats, 56 percent of Republicans, and 59 percent of independents."
