Nassau Legislator Asks FEC To Investigate Santos' "Ghost Donations"
The demand comes after Mother Jones reported Santos allegedly fabricated several of the donors listed on his campaign reports.

BAYSIDE, QUEENS — Adding to the growing calls for George Santos to resign, Nassau County Legislator Joshua Lafazan asked the Federal Election Committee on Tuesday to investigate the embattled Republican’s “ghost donations.”
The demand comes after Mother Jones reported Santos allegedly fabricated several of the donors listed on his campaign reports.
The FEC and the Department of Justice are investigating the GOP congressman’s finances, and Lafzan said in a press conference on Tuesday in front of Santos' Douglaston office that those fake donations violate federal law.

“Residents in Queens are lacking a functioning member in Congress,” Lafzan told Patch. “Having George Santos in the House of Representatives does a disservice every day to the people of Queens.”
Santos allegedly raised over $30,000 from people that never existed or resided in addresses listed in the campaign documents, according to the report. Mother Jones reached out to donors listed on the campaign reports, who said they never donated to the freshman congressman.

Lafzan’s call comes a day after Santos recused from participating in House committees, and reiterated he would continue serving as congressman despite the many calls for him to resign.
