UPDATE: Non Life-Threatening Injuries For Driver Of Flipped Car

Cause of Tuesday morning accident at Marathon Parkway and Cullman Avenue in Little Neck still not determined

Dec. 3, 2:41 p.m.: The injured driver in Tuesday's crash on Marathon Parkway, Joseph Ficarrotta, is at North Shore University Hospital's trauma center. His injuries are extensive, but not life threatening, according to his wife, Barbara. 

An early morning accident at Marathon Parkway and Cullman Avenue in Little Neck involving an overturned sport utility vehicle sent a man to the hospital with unknown injuries.

The driver of the overturned auto, Joseph Ficarrotta, was traveling on Marathon Parkway when another motorist ran a stop sign, hitting him, said the man's wife, Barbara, who arrived at the scene shortly after the accident occurred at approximately 9:20 a.m.

Ficarrotta, the only occupant of the overturned vehicle, was on his way from Benjamin Cardozo High School where he dropped off his son to school, she said.

The man was taken by ambulance to North Shore-Long Island Jewish Medical Center. His condition is unknown.

"I just heard some scraping," said Alan Lerner, a nearby resident at the scene of the overturned Honda CR-V.

Police from the 111th Precinct responded to the location.

Weather conditions in the area were poor at the time of the accident, with blustery winds and driving rain.
