Scoop Ice Cream At A Beloved Bayside Shop This Summer

BAYSIDE, QUEENS — You could work at a beloved, award-winning ice cream and Italian ice shop in Bayside this summer.

Pesso's Ices & Ice Cream, located at the corner of 35th Avenue and 204th Street, closes during the colder months, but recently started looking for part-time workers to scoop and serve ice cream during its busy March through October season.

The family-owned business will reopen to the public on March 11, and is looking for "friendly and outgoing" workers to serve the hordes of customers (and critics) who flock to the Bayside shop for home-made Italian ices, gelato, and ice cream.

Give its popularity, applicants — who need to be at least 18-years-old — have to commit to working at least four days a week, including two weekend days (defined as Friday, Saturday and Sunday), with at-most ten days off during the season.

In exchange, Pesso's pays its workers just over minimum wage: $15.50 per-hour to start.

Applicants also need to be able to complete an array of physical tasks — like reaching into freezers to scoop frozen desserts and carrying and lifting up to 30 pounds (of ice cream!) at a time — and have to pass an NYC Department of Health food safety certification course after getting hired.

Day shifts run from 12:30 p.m. through 5:30 p.m. with night shifts going from 5:30 p.m. through 11 p.m. (the store itself opens to customers from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily).
