LITTLE NECK, QUEENS — Another market might replace the permanently shuttered Stop & Shop in Little Neck, records show.

On Dec. 14, a real estate entity (24926 Property LLC) purchased the former Stop & Shop site, according to property records.

The entity isn't connected to any one person's name (the buyer signature is illegible), but its address is the same as JMart, a Queens-based Asian supermarket located in Flushing's New World Mall on Roosevelt Avenue and Main Street.

An employee at the New World Mall did not deny outright that JMart is opening in Little Neck, but said that she could not "give updates," and directed Patch towards William Shao, who has been named as a JMart representative in the past.

Shao and other representatives for the New World Mall and JMart did not respond to Patch's request for comment by the time of this article's deadline.

This isn't the first murmuring of JMart opening in Little Neck.

Last October, several days after Stop & Shop closed, the Queens Chronicle reported that then-City Council candidate Tony Avella was meeting with JMart about the possibility of it opening another outpost at the site. (At the time, Avella did not respond to Patch's request for comment.)

Ever since Stop & Shop permanently closed, neighbors have been speculating about what will fill the Northern Boulevard site — with many hoping for another market to open in its place.
