Substitute Teacher Accused Of Choking College Point Student, NYPD Says
The teacher was arrested after he grabbed a College Point middle school student by the neck, police said.

BAYSIDE, QUEENS — A 77-year-old substitute teacher stands accused of choking a student in a College Point middle school, police said Friday.
Vernon Jerom, who police say grabbed the neck of a College Point Collaborative student, was arrested about 2:10 Thursday, police said.
"These allegations are very disturbing,"said Education department spokesperson Nathaniel Styer. "This substitute teacher was immediately pulled from service.”

Jerom was immediately arrested in the 109th Precinct, which includes the school campus on 14th Avenue and 124th Street, according to police and officials.
The 77-year-old has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and criminal obstruction of breathing, according to police.
