BAYSIDE, QUEENS — A Bayside high school went into lockdown Friday after a teenager was shot by a fellow student, according to the NYPD and a New York Post report.

The shooting happened Friday around 3 p.m. near Springfield Boulevard and Horace Harding Expressway, two blocks away from Bayside's Cardozo High School, police said.

At the time, a 16-year-old left the school and started talking with an as-yet unidentified group of men, one of whom shot him in the arm before running off, NYPD officials said.

The teen was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition, records show. The incident still prompted a lockdown at Cardozo, the New York Post first reported.

"The safety of our students and staff is our top priority, and out of an abundance of caution, this campus went into a brief shelter-in in response to an off-campus incident," the Cardozo representative told the Post at the time.

Police told Patch that they were still investigating the incident Monday, and that no arrests had been made. Right after the shooting, authorities told the Post that two teenagers were taken into custody.

All three teenagers — those who were taken into custody and the one who was shot — were students at Cardozo, school and law enforcement sources told the outlet Friday.

News of the shooting comes a month after a video surfaced showing a PE coach at Cardozo allegedly slamming a 14-year-old student against the wall and floor.

That violent incident was predated by videos of dozens of fights, which surfaced online last year.
