Uber Ridership Has Spiked In These Queens Neighborhoods: Report
The ride service has doubled in four Queens neighborhoods "long ignored by yellow taxis," according to Uber Connects NYC.

BAYSIDE, QUEENS -- Four Queens neighborhoods with limited subway and yellow taxi access are now seeing more residents catch their rides with Uber, according to a new study by the ride service company.
Uber trips in Bayside, Jamaica, Elmhurst and Maspeth have either nearly or more than doubled in the last year, according to data from UberConnectsNYC.com, a microsite the company launched in May to gauge ridership throughout the city. The study was first reported by QNS.
"From Bayside to Brownsville, Uber is proud to help all New Yorkers move around their communities, especially in areas long ignored by yellow taxis and where access to public transit is limited," the site states.

Bayside, an area known to be underserved by both, saw Uber ridership nearly double in the last year, according to the site. Around half used UberPool - a cheaper alternative that allows drivers to pick up other riders along your route - and more than 95 percent didn't end in downtown Manhattan, Uber reported.

Nearly all riders in Jamaica weren't heading to Manhattan's business district and almost two thirds of them used UberPool, according to the company's data.
Elmhurst and Maspeth riders also each used UberPool more than half the time and more than 90 percent weren't headed into downtown Manhattan, the site reported.
“From Jackson Heights to Jamaica, Uber helps us move around in our communities, and in every corner of the five boroughs," Danielle Filson, an Uber spokeswoman, told QNS. "That is why the majority of Uber rides are now outside of Manhattan, in areas like Queens."
Uber representatives did not immediately return Patch's request for comment.
